Kiev's Cool Howls

While most dogs only bark, I’m quite vocally expressive. First of all, about the only time I make a true barking sound is when a strange dog is in my yard. Second, I’m nothing like those yapping terriers. I don’t bark or howl at people strolling past the house, or at rabbits, birds or any of that nonsense. I only vocalize when I have something to say, or when someone talks to me.

My Wolf Like Howl

   I make a sound very similar to a wolf howling. I’ve been told that wolfs howl to synchronize and assemble the pack to action. I howl when my friends return after leaving me home alone. Whether I’ve been left alone for 12 minutes or 12 hours, it seems like forever to me! I also howl whenever anyone howls at me, and sometimes when I’m told I’m going for a walk.

My Cry

  When something scary happens or more often when I feel abandon in my cage, I make this pitiful cry. This sound upsets Brad the most; and sometimes if I’m luck, he’ll come over and comfort me.

My Wimper

   I make this soft whimpering sound. It only lasts a few seconds. It's used to gently suggest to Brad that there's something else that interests me. For example, Brad and I are taking a walk and across the street I see a friendly doggie. I'll whimper to tell Brad, "Hey lets cross the street and check this out." Brad usually ignores me, and we continue on our way.

   You could follow me for a week and never hear me bark, but I can if I want to. Just to prove I’m not lying, I’ve let Brad record me barking.

My Whine

When you listen to me whine you can hear elements of the howl, cry and wimper. I use this sound to complain and get noticed. I whine when I want to go outside or when I want to be let back inside, or when life is being unfair to me.

My Playful Growl

If you don't know me well you might get the wrong idea when I growl in play. I sometimes growl when I play tug of war and when I get someone to scratch me behind my ears.
